Modkeel: a safety net for modded Minecraft
An open-source Minecraft mod that backs up worlds when mod sets change, helps identify crash-causing mods, and offers reversible fixes.
- For
- Modded Minecraft players and pack authors
- Worth noticing
- It ships without mixins or configuration files, stores everything locally, and lists support for Fabric, NeoForge, and Forge.
Field notes
The Companion is installed by placing it in the mods folder; its controls appear under a Modkeel button on the title screen, with no configuration files to ship. Before loading a world with a changed mod set, it saves a copy, and after a crash it names a likely culprit with its confidence and explanation. The separate CLI example searches GitHub community ports for a requested Minecraft version and loader, then compiles and checks a resulting jar; a desktop app and tested modpacks are described as future work.
