Poncell’s browser-based genome scanner
Credibility concern recorded. The source reference remains available for verification and correction.
Poncell presents a browser tool that scans phage and giant-virus genomes from NCBI for repeat arrays near reverse transcriptases, then compares results with a published one.
- For
- Researchers and curious readers checking phage-genome patterns
- Worth noticing
- The displayed MarsHill result lists five 14-nt repeats, four 159–199-nt spacers, and a polymerase 287 nt upstream.
Field notes
Poncell says the browser fetches genome sequences directly from NCBI, hashes the input, then runs two detectors in a worker: one for CRISPR-sized arrays and another for long-spacer arrays upstream of ART reverse transcriptases. Its displayed example is Staphylococcus phage MarsHill, with five 14-nucleotide repeats and spacers reported at 159–199 nucleotides. The page frames matching hashes against a published result as independent replication; the same interface also links to token buying, wallet connection, and dashboard and leaderboard features.
