Gather & Join makes a watch party out of separate accounts

Field notes

The setup depends on a companion server run by someone in the group, rather than an account on Gather & Join; the host shares its address before creating a room. The page says camera use is optional, recommends headphones, and notes that its echo cancellation is tuned for the call rather than a show playing through speakers. Google Drive viewers need access to the same shared file.
