CouchBuddy adds a live research track to Plex movie night
CouchBuddy is an iPhone second-screen app for Plex that says it researches a film as it plays, surfacing sourced details about its cast, locations, music, and more.
- For
- Plex viewers who like movie context without pausing
- Worth noticing
- The demo locks discoveries ahead of the playhead to avoid spoilers, with cards pinned to specific moments.
Field notes
The page describes Plex supplying the title and playback position, while a connected ChatGPT account researches details and returns sourced findings; TMDB provides artwork and metadata. Its demo lets viewers scrub through a film timeline, with discoveries categorized by subject and future moments kept locked. The site asks visitors to request TestFlight access, so the extracted evidence does not establish that the app is generally available.
