A room planner that checks the awkward parts
RoomFitter lets you lay out a room to scale, check furniture clearances, test whether a sofa can pass through a door, and estimate rug size.
- For
- People arranging furniture or checking a sofa move
- Worth noticing
- Its hallway-turn check models a sofa swinging through a right angle, with a small safety margin subtracted from the door size.
Field notes
The planner treats each furniture item as a measured rectangle, flags wall crossings and overlaps, and compares edge-to-edge or corner-to-corner gaps against selectable 24-, 30-, or 36-inch clearances. Rugs are drawn dashed and excluded from collision checks; the page also reports floor coverage and offers rug sizes from 5×8 to 9×12 feet. Measurements and layouts are saved in browser local storage on the device, with no account or server-side storage described.
