Civilization: a globe for scrubbing through history
An interactive globe and map for exploring 300,000 years of empires, religions, population, countries, people, and events.
Field notes
The interface combines a rotatable globe with a flat-map mode and lets visitors move through historical dates using playback, single-step, and era-jump controls. Its layers cover empires, religions, population density, countries, and people and events; the visible population scale runs from 0.1 to 100 people per km². Search, inspection, label toggling, graticule controls, and keyboard shortcuts make it feel designed for active exploration rather than passive reading.
